No Snow Down South [[[Original Music]]]

Happy December!  Playing the Zilker Tree Lighting last night with the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble sure got me in the mood for the holidays… even if it *was* 70 degrees!

December’s music classes will see lots of jingling bells, tree-chopping, hand-clapping, and searches for a certain bearded visitor!  This is one of my favorite times of the year to sing with the kids, because the excitement is built in!

Here’s Ms. Kat’s original song for December, dedicated to all the children — and grown-up “children” — who can’t quite relate to frosty windowpanes, building a snowman, having a snowball fight, or getting all bundled up to shovel the driveway.

Can you *imagine* trying to get out the door with an infant in northern climates?  I would have NEVER left the HOUSE.  I grew up in New York, and thought snow days were the best thing ever — now I understand why my parents thought otherwise….

Chock full of North vs. South stereotypes, I had a lot of fun writing and recording this one.  See if you can name all of the traditional Christmas songs I borrowed the melodies from.  (My 5- and 8-year-olds can do it!)

Let me know what you think!

Don’t forget! Ms. Kat’s PUBLIC music classes at the NW Rec Center can begin as soon as we have “EIGHT for a DATE!”
